Tettigonia cantans - Upland Green Bush-cricket
(Fuessly, 1775)

Description: A large and green species (♂ 20-30 mm, ♀ 25-33 mm), the dorsal side is brown. Fore wings are broad and only slightly longer than the abdomen, with rounded tip. Hind wings are much shorter. Ovipositor is 22-26 mm, straight.
Similar species: Tettigonia caudata and T. viridissima
Adults: from June to October.
Song:
The loud song can be heard up to 70 meters away. The chirps can vary in length, mostly short (1 to 5 sec.) in the afternoon and much longer in the night.

Habitat: 
In humid and relatively cold habitats with dense vegetation.
Distribution:
Rare in Hungary, restricted to higher mountains and the West-Hungarian Borderland.
