Calliptamus italicus - Common Pincer Grasshopper
(L., 1758)

Description: Relatively large, robust species (♂ 14-25 mm, ♀ 20-40 mm). Ground colour brown, hind tibiae reddish. Forewing has dark patches and a few mm's longer than the hind knee. Hind wing base is translucent pink. The eyes are vertically striped.
Similar species: Calliptamus barbarus
Adults: from June to October.
Song:
No calling sound, but males produce a soft rasping sound by rubbing the mandibles to each other.

abitat:  Dry (alkaline) grasslands, rocky places. In suitable habitats
sometimes quite abundant. It's a good flier.

Distribution:
Widespread and common.
