Pholidoptera aptera - Alpine Dark Bush-cricket
(Fabricius, 1793)

Description: Medium-sized and robust insect (♂ 20-24 mm, ♀ 22-25 mm). The male is brownish black, while the female is (reddish) brown, but the dorsal side is always lighter. The ventral side is yellow. A broad light stripe runs along the lower margin of the pronotum. The ovipositor is 19-21 mm long, straight, only at the end is slightly curved upwards.
Similar species: other Pholidoptera species.
Adults: from June to October.
Song:
Easily recognisable, loud song. Chirps last 2-4 seconds and they follow each other with intervals of 6 to 10 sec.

Habitat: 
Rocky places, forest edges, clearings.
Distribution:
Widespread in hills and mountains.
