Pholidoptera transsylvanica - Transsylvanian Dark Bush-cricket
(Fischer, 1853)

Description: Quite large locust (♂ 19-26 mm, ♀ 23-30 mm). Ground colour is brown. The short forewings are reddish brown with reticulate venation. Ovipositor is 21-26 mm long and straight.
Similar species: other Pholidoptera species.
Adults: from June to September
Song:
Sings in daytime. The song consists of faint chirps repeated with irregular intervals.

Habitat: 
Grasslands and forest edges. Needs dense vegetation.
Distribution:
Endemic species of the Eastern Carpathians. In Hungary only a few populations in NE (Zemplén Mts., Aggteleki-karszt and Kaszonyi-hegy).
Note:
Protected species in Hungary.
