Chorthippus dorsatus - Steppe Grasshopper
(Zetterstedt, 1821)

Description: Relatively small species (♂ 14-19 mm, ♀ 19-25 mm). Very similar to Ch. albomarginatus, but without a light stripe on the fore wings and always with a Chorthippus lobe. Ground colour green to brown. The side keels of the pronotum are only slightly bent, diverging posteriorly. The wings reach to about the hind knee. Medial field on fore wing is narrow. The tip of the male's abdomen is often reddish.
Similar species: Chorthippus albomarginatus and Ch. oschei
Adults: from July to October
Song:
Relatively faint song consisting of 3 to 10 chirps, each of which is about 1 s long and at the end the pulses accelerate making a rustling sound. The chirps follow each other with intervals of 1 to 5 seconds.

Habitat: In humid grasslands, hayfields, forst edges. It can be found in dense vegetation. A poor flier.
