Oedipoda caerulescens - Blue Band-winged Grasshopper
(L., 1758)

Description: Medium-sized grasshopper with cryptic colouration (♂ 15-21 mm, ♀ 22-28 mm). Ground colour can be very variable, depending on the colour of the soil (grey, brown, reddish, etc.). The wings are longer than the hind knee, with 2 to 3 dark bands on the forewing. The base of the hind wing is sky blue with a black band.
Similar species: Sphingonotus caerulans
Adults: from June to October.
Song:
No calling song.

abitat:  Dry grasslands, sandy areas, rocky places. Prefers bare ground.
Distribution:
Widespread and common.
