Sphingonotus caerulans - Blue-winged Sand Grasshopper
(L., 1767)

Description: Medium-sized but rather slender grasshopper (♂ 14-25 mm, ♀ 22-30 mm). Ground colour is grey or brown with dark patches. In profile the head is higher than thorax and the wings extend well beyond the hide knees. There are 2 or 3 dark patches on the fore wing The base of the hind wings is light-blue. There are 3 transversal grooves on the pronotum.
Similar species: Oedipoda caerulescens
Adults: from June to October.
Song:
No calling song.

abitat:  Sandy grasslands and rocky places. It prefers bare ground.
Distribution:
Rare. Known from different regions (e.g. Bakony, Balaton Uplands, Vértes, Kiskunság).
