Stenobothrus stigmaticus - Lesser Toothed Grasshopper
(Rambour, 1838)
Description: Small, green or sometimes brown species (♂ 11-15 mm, ♀ 15-20 mm). The narrow wings almost reach the hind knee, medial field is also narrow. The light stigma is at ¾ of the wing length, but not always present. The side keels of the pronotum are slightly curved, similar to S. lineatus. The tip of the male's abdomen is orange to red.
Similar species: Stenobothrus nigromaculatus, Omocestus haemorrhoidalis, Omocestus petraeus
Adults: from July to October
Song: The song is quite faint and they sing irregularly, so it's not the best recording method. It is a cratching sound that lasts 1 to 3 sec.
Source: Orthoptera Species File (field recording, 32 °C, 500Hz high pass)
Habitat: Grasslands and pastures with low vegetation.
Distribution: Widespread but not common.
